Precision Ergonomics

"Precision Ergonomics is a byproduct of my desire to use ergonomics as a tool to help as many people as possible."

John Rutherford, Principal

I started my career as a physiotherapist, and I’ve always enjoyed assisting others with their physical health. But I noticed something. I realised that despite my best efforts as a health professional, there was often a missing piece of the puzzle – niggles that resolved well during a treatment session sometimes returned unexpectedly. I realised that the missing link (particularly in the white-collar world) was ergonomics.

I returned to university to expand my knowledge in the field of ergonomics and have been using my dual qualifications in these two disciplines ever since.

Unfortunately, I found that ergonomics was often not done very well. There were a lot of people who claimed to understand ergonomics, but in reality were regurgitating myths or half-truths that didn’t really stand up to evidence-based scrutiny. So I make it my mission to ensure that the right fit for a particular individual or project is not only practical, but also well backed by facts. And having done this for a while now, I have a great depth of experience to know what really works!

Even after however-many-thousands of workstation assessments, I still get a buzz when a client has a light-bulb moment – when they see that some simple adjustments to their ergonomics can have an immediate effect on their comfort. It’s the beauty of my industry to be able to make a positive change for people in this way.

When it comes to project-based work, that buzz becomes truly electric! Nothing beats the vibe on Day 1 as employees come to their new office space, knowing that their musculoskeletal health has been considered and that they will be able to make themselves comfortable at work. Working closely behind the scenes with the key stakeholders ensures these outcomes for each project.

I love what I do and look forward to hearing from you to see where we can apply best-practice ergonomics to get the right fit for you.

Yours in health,

John Rutherford
